Fabulous and AMT Validate Food Contact Compliance for 3D-Printed Parts Using DETECT PA11 and PostPro® Pure
An accredited independent lab confirmed food contact compliance for SLS parts printed in FABULOUS DETECT PA11 and vapor smoothed with PostPro Pure.
Lyon, France & Sheffield, UK · FABULOUS, a French developer of advanced materials for SLS 3D printing, and Additive Manufacturing Technologies (AMT) today announced the successful validation of food contact compliance for 3D-printed parts produced using FABULOUS DETECT PA11 and post-processed with AMT’s PostPro® Pure vapor smoothing consumable.
The validation was carried out by an accredited independent laboratory in accordance with U.S. FDA 21 CFR §177.1500 (nylon resins), assessing extractable substances across multiple food simulants. Test results for water, ethanol (95%), and ethyl acetate were all well within regulatory limits, confirming that parts manufactured using this combined workflow meet the required standards for food contact applications.
This joint validation provides manufacturers with a clear and reliable route to producing compliant 3D printed parts, addressing a key challenge in regulated industries such as food processing and pharmaceuticals, where material performance and surface integrity are critical.
FABULOUS’s DETECT PA11 is a bio-based polyamide material designed for applications requiring high levels of safety and traceability, including metal and optical detectability to reduce contamination risks. When combined with AMT’s PostPro® technology, which uses vapor smoothing to seal surfaces and reduce porosity, the result is a functional, durable component suitable for use in controlled environments where cleanliness and compliance are essential.
The validation confirms that the full process, from material selection through post-processing, can be applied consistently across AMT’s PostPro systems, providing a scalable and repeatable solution for manufacturers moving from prototyping to production.
