Which materials can be vapor smoothed?

Vapor smoothing works on thermoplastics that a controlled solvent vapor can soften and reflow. With PostPro, that means the powder-bed nylons PA12 and PA11, the elastomers TPU and TPE, polypropylene with its dedicated agent, industrial FDM materials, and 100+ thermoplastics1 with FA326 on the SF50 and SF100.

Questions

Materials: questions.

Short answers from AMT’s published material lists. Anything else, ask an engineer.

What materials can be vapor smoothed?

With PostPro: PA12, PA11, TPU, TPE and polypropylene from powder-bed printers, industrial FDM materials such as ULTEM and Onyx, machined plastics, and 100+ thermoplastics1 with FA326 on the SF50 and SF100.

Can glass- or carbon-filled parts be vapor smoothed?

Filled PA12 grades from MJF and SLS are listed with PostPro Pure and FA326, and carbon-filled Onyx from FDM is listed too.1,3 Send a part in your grade to confirm the finish.

Which finishing agent do I need for my material?

PostPro Pure covers the nylons, TPU and ULTEM in every PostPro system, and machined plastics on the SF100; FA326 covers 100+ thermoplastics1 on the SF50 and SF100; FA9202 is for polypropylene.

Can machined plastic parts be processed?

Yes: Polycarbonate (PC), acrylic (PMMA), ABS, polysulfone (PSU), PEI (ULTEM™) and nylon (PA)8 are vapor polished on the PostPro SF100 with PostPro Pure.
