When parts come out

The last stage of a cycle is drying. AMT’s vapor smoothing page describes it as the stage where “the parts are dried, ensuring that no consumable traces remain within the processing chamber”. After that, the parts are ready for their next step.

Day-to-day handling

  • Clean gloves, clean surfaces. A smoothed, sealed surface shows fingerprints and dust more than a matte printed one.
  • Store parts so they do not rub. Separate parts that could scuff each other in a bin.
  • Follow the safety data sheet for your consumable when you handle consumables and recovered material. You will find the SDS on AMT’s documents page.

Why smoothed parts are easier to keep clean

A sealed surface has fewer pores for dirt to sit in. A production customer lists “easier cleaning” among the benefits, and AMT’s Point Designs case study describes “smooth, sealed surfaces that improve comfort and hygiene” on prosthetic devices smoothed on a PostPro SFX.

Skin and food contact: know the scope

AMT has published two specific results:

  • Skin contact. HP 3D HR PA 12 parts smoothed with PostPro Pure showed no cytotoxic effects and no reduction in strength or durability (AMT whitepaper, Jun 2025).
  • Food contact. FABULOUS DETECT PA11 parts smoothed with PostPro Pure: an accredited independent lab found extractables well within regulatory limits under US FDA 21 CFR §177.1500 (Apr 2026).

These results cover those materials and that consumable. If your parts touch skin or food, validate your own material and application, and talk to AMT before you rely on them.
