Covestro AG introduced a new multi-faceted elastomeric material to its arsenal of advanced polymers and high-performance plastics – Thermoplastic Copolymer (TPC) known as Addigy P3001. Upon its launch at Formnext 2021, the TPC underwent extensive testing for the material to be used in skin contact applications and to ensure that it’s at the pinnacle of safety. However, it is not only the material that needs to pass the tests but the entire value chain. Upon the evaluation of post processing technology options, Covestro chose to utilize AMT’s PostPro Vapor Smoothing to enable Addigy P3001 for various consumer products including dental mouthguards and components requiring biocompatibility approval. As a result, the combination of Covestro’s Addigy P3001 TPC material and AMT PostPro Vapor Smoothing passed skin irritation, sensitization, and cytotoxicity tests.
